You are probably wondering, what is a room connector and how is it going to benefit my business? But first, let's start from the beginning, what do H.323 and SIP stand for? These terms are specifically known for the IP signaling standards. They describe multimedia communication systems and protocols. Although they have a vast majority of differences, basically, H.323 is derived by ITU before the advent of SIP while SIP is acknowledged by the IETF standard. Now, introducing the concept of a room connector, we can say that the H.323/SIP Room Connector is a gateway for H.323 and SIP devices, meaning that an H.323 or SIP device can make a video call to a Room Connector to join a Zoom cloud meeting. A Room Connector is also able to call out to an H.323 or SIP device to join a Zoom cloud meeting. One of its benefits is that it is supported by most providers in the market such as Cisco, Tandberg, Poly, Lifesize, Sony, Huawei, TandyHD and more. If you work with another provider, don't hesitate to contact us, we could probably work together. The other good news is that the Room Connector can work with almost every device: mobile phones, tablets, pcs, and laptops. Additionally, it works with the following protocols to ensure the best video conferencing quality:
Video: H.264, H.264 High profile
Audio Code X: G.711, G.722
Content: H.239 BFCP
If you are currently thinking “what can a Zoom Room Connector do for me?” well, if you work on a large organization, the good news is that this technology allows you to have a videoconference with up to 200 participants or host a webinar with 3,0000 viewers in an organized way and without complications. Don´t worry about security, we use end to end encryption, a method of secure communication with the purpose of preventing third-parties from accessing data while it's transferred from one end system or device to another. Okay, now we can move on to the options available for a Room Connector. Depending on your needs you can choose between the Cloud Room Connector (CRC) hosted by Zoom, or the Virtual Room Connector (VRC) an On-premise alternative. So, the cloud-based solution connects your conference room through our East and West Coast IP addresses, reducing the latency as much as possible and provide an excellent service. The best is that it doesn't require any setup process whatsoever, making it very simple for newcomers. Moving on to the Virtual Room Connector, we can say that this on-premise solution deploys the room connector as a virtual machine. The setup process is relatively easy, with dedicated virtual servers, accessible to users on their accounts. So, in other words, your meetings run on your own servers, instead of the public internet. Actually, zoom is the only provider to offer this VRC alternative.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
VRC is offered as a VM installation on a private cloud. VRC in your internal network allows internal H.323/SIP devices to join a Zoom meeting. VRC in your external network allows external H.323/SIP devices to join a Zoom meeting.
HOW CAN I CONNECT FROM AN H.323 DEVICE?
IP Address only, then enter meeting ID on the welcome screen or IP Address##Meeting ID
MeetingID@IP Address (for some Cisco/Tandberg devices)
WHAT IF I´M TRYING TO CONNECT FROM A SIP DEVICE INSTEAD?
IP Address only, then enter meeting ID on the welcome screen
Meeting ID@IP Address
meetingid.password@ip or meetingid:password@ip
If you are using the Cloud Room Connector you can also connect via pairing. It´s super easy and intuitive:
1. Connect to the splash screen by dialing the IP Address only. 2. Enter the five-character pairing code (seen on the splash screen) into the pairing code option on the Zoom website or in the Zoom application.
CALL OUT OPTIONS
It is possible to call out to your H.323/SIP devices by using the public IP address or by a device that is assigned with what is known as a SIP URI. Remember, endpoints must be accessible. There´s also the Directory option which works perfectly with companies that have multiple devices without remembering an IP or a dial string. It´s a real time saver: all addresses and URIs are saved for everyone to make a call-out efficiently. Don't forget to check the prerequisites before attending to perform any of these options. The Zoom Room Connector also offers other features such as:
HD video and HD voice
An active speaker, gallery view (2x2 3x3 4x4 5x5)
Dual- stream content +video
Call in and call out options
If you are having trouble with your Room Connector check this out:

Make sure your content streams are enabled.
Check all the call stats.
Check the network device.
